The most frequent question posted here must be people asking for advice about CFD related books. I think that it is time to put this in some sort of FAQ or so. I know that there is a "CFD books list" on the net, but it is a bit outdated by now and I don't think that is is maintained regularly either.

There has been quite a few answers here about books and I'll try to dig out the most important parts and put it together. However, I could use some help. If you want to recommend a good CFD book please send me a description of it including title, author and ISBN number. The books can of course also be about topics related to CFD (like Turbulence, specific application areas etc). Thanks in advance.

Good idea Jonas. Books are awesome creatures.... my fav is Ferziger and Peric's, 'Computational Methods for Fluid Dynamics'...its pretty amazing how much understandable info they packed into 364 pages. I have also found J.D. Anderson's books on CFD to be indispensible as well. And also in the CFD category, I believe that Mr. Patankar's classic on Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow is an essential reference. Another really great book I like, though its not specifically CFD, is Frank M. White's classic, 'Viscous Fluid Flows'. And my final nominee in the flow category would have to be Pope's, 'Low (and High)- Speed Wind Tunnel Testing'. These are just a few though, and as we all know there are many great technical, but still literary, works of men and women in this field that make concepts such as discretization, or even "wiggle" study (if you haven't already, check out: P.M. Gresho & R.L. Lee's, 'Don't Suppress the Wiggles, They're Telling You Something', published 1979 in Finite Element Methods for Convection Dominated Flows'), or even boundary layer investigation exciting, rewarding and satisfying. Yes friends, books AND journal articles are good things.

The Ferziger and Peric Book, Computational Methods for Fluid Dynamics, is a very good book. I gives a good overview of CFD, and points out current trends in CFD like LES and DNS. It also comes with a variety of free CFD codes (via ftp). It may not mean much, but I recommend this book.
