We like to do some research on CFD option to improve the working of some of the products we make.. Buth we do not have worked before with a CFD program... Befor getting us into a lot of cost by buying a expensive software program we like to play and test some with opensource CFD software that also includes 3D moddeling of products..
Is there some free and or opensource software we can download and "play" with? We have running solaris on both sparc and intell, also running linux on intel and win2k, winnt and winxp running on some of the systems ... any good hints about what we can use to start with? Regards, Johan Louwers |

Are you considering a framework to develop codes also? If so, you can try FOAM (www.nabla.co.uk), Gerris, or Overture. I just finished FOAM installation, and I am planing to play with it in my PhD. Seems very good, altough I dont think it is free for non academic world. Gerris and Overture are. Good luck, Luiz

For industrail use of a good CFD software, it's difficult to get it free for the simple reason that CFD engineers have to earn a living as well. But I think you can contact the big CFD vendors to see if they can provide you a free demo licence for a few months.
