Van Leer's Flux splitting

Default Van Leer's Flux splitting

Hi CFD friends I was not able to understand the advantage of Van Leers flux splitting method.I know that it removes the problem of discontinuity at stagnation and sonic velocities but I did not understand the mathematical reason.Can anybody solve my problem ? Thank You
