If you have no prior experience in programming or numerical methods (and please forgive me for the assumption if this is not the case) writing a 3D CFD code from scratch will be a very steep learning curve for you. I have known individuals trying to go down this route, even with only 2D codes, with very little success. As a course project I think your instructor is being too ambitious. As a thesis project you might find it more productive starting with an existing open source code, even if it seems difficult to understand how it works at first. There are plenty from which you can choose. I am not suggesting not to do this; I think it is a great learning opportunity. If you are met with time and technical constraints, you would be best to focus on the application as opposed to going down a difficult but well treaded path of wheel invention. Gerry.
