Hello,
i'm having some troubles in analysing the spectral data of Jimenez et al. for the turbulent channel flow @ Ret = 2000. I can't figure out what is the proper scaling of the energy and wave numbers. Actually, i have fortuitously found the proper scaling for the wave numbers (apart from the dealiasing) but i'm still unable to find the proper scale for the energy. For proper scale i mean some factor which will convert the energy to the form used in the data of Kim, Moin & Moser for Ret = 180. Is there someone who already faced the same problem? Edit The data are available at: http://torroja.dmt.upm.es/ftp/channels/data/ Thanks in advance Last edited by sbaffini; June 9, 2009 at 19:30. Attached are a fortran code I used to read Jim\'enez's spectra data base and the results for 200 and 2000 cases. It gives a similar result with that in their paper (Juan C. del Alamo and Javier Jimenez (2003) "Spectra of the very large anisotropic scales in turbulent channels", Phys. Fluids Vol. 15 No. 6, pp L41-L44).
I am not quite clear how the author did the non-dimensionalization, but I used (kx+)*(kz+)/utau/utau for it. |

Dear Yang,
thank you for the concern. Back in 2009 i was finally able to manage the 1D spectra of Jimenez (which now i jelously preserve as they are not anymore available); in the end, it was just a matter of proper scaling factors, more specifically it was just a Re_tau = 2003 factor. However, i really appreciate your contribution as i never had the chance to dive in the 2D spectra. Now i can, thanks. |
