Hello,

I'm trying to simulate the transition on a flat plate using an extremely fine mesh and a high order DNS.

I wonder what boundary conditions I need to impose in order to obtain transition. Because on a flat plate without a pressure gradient I suppose the only factors that can trigger transition will be the free stream turbulence and the surface roughness. I don't plan to include the surface roughness into this simulation so i suppose if I don't somehow include some fluctuations in the boundary condition I will never be able to catch the transition.

How will be best to include these fluctuations ? I was thinking at adding some random noise (or to use a step function at each time step) to alter the speed in the chordwise direction.

Thanks.

I think you may read the papers by Fasel about how to generate disturbance to produce transition.

This is the article ?

"Spatial direct numerical simulation of transition phenomena in supersonic flat plate boundary layers"

If not, can you please send me the title of Fasel paper.

Thanks.

The following papers might be of help, although some of them are for bypass transition...

Dear SSK

Your lins are very useful.

I'm working on transition modeling in flat plate too. I need details of some experimental data. Would you help me how can i found them?

ghazanfar.zahedi@gmail.com

Thanks alot for your favor
