how to analyze the dissipation and dispersion errors generated by temporal discretisation?
If von Neumann analysis is used, for multistep schemes, finally a polynomial is obtained. There are one or more roots of such polynomial. Then how to analyze the dissipation and dispersion errors? Thank you. |

Look for papers by Tam et. al on dispersion relation preserving schemes. He has given a detailed analysis on the analysis of temporal discretization errors. Also Hirsch has a section on the same topic in vol. 1
