Hi,
I'm a beginner to the area of aerodynamic design optimization. Would anyone know of good textbooks or references that are suitable for beginners? Are there any commercially available software? Thanks |

Antony Jameson (a legend in the CFD world) has worked a lot on aerodynamic shape optimization of wings in the last 10 years. You can download many of his papers, including a review paper on aerodynamic design and optimization, from here:

Hi Jonas and Praveen,
Thanks for the info. Are there books suitable for beginners in aerodynamic design? Aerodynamics books like the one by J.D. Anderson are good at analysis of flows, but do not touch much on design. Thanks |

Check out
Mohammadi, B.; Pironneau, O.: Applied Shape Optimisation for Fluids, Oxford Science Publications, Clarendon Press, 2001 (Start with this though it is not very easy since most of the theory is only briefly mentioned) and O. Pironneau. Optimal Shape Design for Elliptic Systems and JP Zolésio, Introduction to Shape Optimization, Springer-Verlag, New York 1992 There is also a VKI lecture notes but I dont have the reference now. |

N. A. Cumpsty. "Compressor Aerodynamics". Longman. 1989 To learn more about optimisation techniques you can download the main algorithms with explanations from www.nr.com. |
