hi there, i hope i can get advices from you guys. i have just summitted my master thesis and is waiting for viva. my master project is on internal flow simulation (not through comercial code). i am thinking about pursueing a phd in cfd but still not sure if its prospect. sorry if this happens to be a silly question: what would happen to cfd if there is a breakthrough in mathematics that solve the navier-stokes equations analytically . will cfd still plays the role as a design tool? what about the cfd engineers? please note that i'm very interested in cfd and hope to build my career on it. thank you. regards, yfy

1) If you want to increase the chances of getting a good job, try to be become a specialist in an applied field (icing, combustion, turbulence, two-phase flow, etc.

2) Don't worry, I don't think there are any chances that we will be able to solve the Navier-Stokes equations analytically in the short term. These are highly non-linear equations. These equations are so complicated that is even impossible to prove the unicity of the solution for general problems.

Good luck.

i quite agree with you sebastien, and i advice you to go for two-phase flow with a mathematical look.

Hi,

I have a degree in mechanical engineering and would like to continue my studues in fluid dynamics preferrably specialising in CFD. Unfortunately i cannot find a university that offers a masters degree in this topic through distance learning, any suggestions?

Rgds
