Default Spurious oscillations in porous media simulations

I'm interested in resolving a problem with spurious oscillations in a finite volume flow solver where the governing equations include effects of blockage or porosity, which are analogous. I found a good thread of literature on upwind methods for "conservation" laws that include source terms (based on work on the shallow water equations), but my efforts in transferring the ideas to my own problem haven't been fruitful.

Does anyone know of a good thread of research on this topic?

Thanks,

David
