Default ENERGY CONSERVATION SCHEMES!

Hi all,

Sorry, I gave the wrong email address by mistake! Please help me!

I wish to ask : what do we mean by energy conservation schemes? Are Upwinding Schemes Energy Conserving Schemes? If yes, then how

do we prove that they are energy conserving schemes?

In general, how do we prove that a scheme is an energy preserving scheme?

Thanks in advance to all!

Hi there,

Energy conservative scheme is really important for DNS, LES simulations. Any kind of upwinding is actually similar to introducing a dissipation to stabilize the scheme. By definition when introducing dissipation, the scheme is not conservative. Take a look at the following paper: Morinishi, Lund, Vasilyev and Moin. "Fully Conservative Higher Order Finite Difference Schemes for Incompressible Flow" Journal of Computational Physics Vol 143, pp 90-124, 1998.

you can download this paper at(Postscipt format):

http://mae.uta.edu/~lund/JCPmanu.ps

The finite difference approach is examined and the conservative properties are discussed in detail.

You can also check the extanded abstract of the paper that i will prsent this summer at the third international AFSOR conference on DNs and LES. Click the link (pdf format):

Sincerely,

Frederic Felten.
