Hi dear scholars,

We have a version of fluent (5.xx) in our school and I need to do parallel processing by FLUENT on the cluster of PC.

I wonder if someone can let me know what are the procedures and are there any extra files that we will need to download.

Regards. M

OK, see if I remember it correctly...

1) Start Fluent by command "fluent"

2) Under File, click "Run"

3) Specify parallel etc. You probably have to use "socket" for the message passing, since you may not have mpi on your machines.

4) You may have to specify what machines you want to use manually under "Parallel" or something like that.

5) Proceed as per usual.

I haven't done it for a while, so the commands may not be exactly what I wrote!

/Johan

For PC clusters, you need to set up a file in your home directory called ".fluent.hosts" in which the machine names are specified. Then start FLUENT using the command "fluent 3d(or 2d) -pnet -t0" and follow the steps below:

1. Click Parallel-> Network -> Configure 2. Highlight the machines you want to run your parallel job (no more than 8 nodes at a time), 3. Click Spawn at the bottom.

If you need more than 8 nodes, repeat the above steps for more processors. I believe this is a bug in Fluent.

Good luck.
