Hello all,

Can anyone suggest a reference/book which will give a modest introduction to multiphase flow. I am interested in typically dust/air interaction where dust particles are much larger than free mean path.

Are there any references about Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics applied to multiphase flows of such kind.

Thanks a lot,

Regards Sunil Hadap

I suggest the excellent intro book by Crowe et al, 1998, "Multiphase Flows with Droplets and Particles". Numerical methods are discussed.

Crowe has also just written a paper on a new turbulence model for multiphase flow where the effects of particles on turbulence (supression or enhancement) is explicitly provided for. It is in a recent issue of Int. J. Multiphase Flow, 2000, v. 26, p. 719-727.

Reserach papers that I have found especially lucid and instructive are those by Meiberg and coworkers such as the papers by Raju & Meiberg in Physics of Fluids, 1995 and 1997. Also there is one to come out in J. Fluid Mech. by Meiberg and others on flow coupling.

I don't have much experience with SPH.

There's a fairly technical discussion of the mathematics of PIC and SPH in: J.J. Monaghan "Particle methods for hydrodynamicists" Computer Physics Reports, Vol. 3, pp. 72-84, 1985.
