Hi,

I would like to ask whether the control volume size decided while deriving a governing equation and the mesh size while numerically solving the system have any relationship ?. Is that we can't have mesh size less than the control volume ??

Thank you

Yes, you can do that. That would be an approach for an explicit filtering in LES.

Thanks for the reply

Don't wanna go to LES for now. My question is on fundamental aspect, say for an two phase system I have decided a control volume with bubbles in it. I get some PDEs and now I numerically solve these while doing so can I have mesh size less than the control volume ?

Yes, but you have to properly write the FV code.

Can you elaborate this or any reference...would be of great help

Thanks

The measure of the FV is your choice, it can be N times l’arteria than the mesh size. For example, you can have a FV built by 3h x 3h in a 2d mesh.

I addressed LES since this technique is used in computing the test filtering.
