Hey there..anyone using AM PravaH for Laser powder bed fusion modeling? I had a question about cooling rates in the microstructure module. As the cooling rate affects the grain evolution, how can I specify the cooling rates in inputs?

Hi Jonathan_01, as far as I know there is no separate variable input that drives the cooling rates but the thermal conductivity, specific heat and the chamber temperature are the factors which controls the cooling rates in practice and by varying them you may get different cooling rates. If your material is same, by varying the chamber temperature you should get different cooling rates and the respective grain evolution.

Thanks pruts for the reply, I am trying with different chamber temperatures and I can see different grain evolution, also the melt pool size is reduced with reduced chamber temperature.

Hey! I haven’t used AM PravaH, but cooling rates in LPBF are usually controlled through process parameters like laser power, scan speed, and layer thickness. You might not directly input cooling rates but adjust those parameters. Check if the software has a thermal module for specifying heat transfer conditions or refer to the documentation for specific inputs.

Hello Benjamihines !

I've been using AM PravaH for a couple of weeks now, and I'm excited to see this page where I can share my questions.

Regarding, cooling rates, I believe they're influenced by process parameters, particularly the scan pattern. The software also includes a built-in thermal module that takes into account all the factors affecting cooling rates.

what software do you use?
