Hi all,

Please is there anyone in the house that can assist me with a good CFD Software? I am trying to simulate cold flow over a hot surface of an Apollo/Orion heatshield but using a prototype of 50 millimetres in diameter.

I have tried some couple of software but all efforts proved abortive. Here are some limitations: ANSYS does not give a good precision of the surface recession that is associated with ablation species; OPENFOAM seems to be hectic and some open packages are missing for thermo-physics and surface recession; SimFlow cannot perform ablation studies; Eilmer cannot perform ablation studies; I do not have access to many other ablation software used by NASA and ESA because I am not an American citizen.

Please see attachment for the physical explanations. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated. Even if I am buying a software, it should not be too expensive because it is for my personal research and academic purpose.
Thank you.

What do you mean by surface recession here? The material will be removed and surface goes back. Is this correct?

Yeah you're absolutely correct. Materials removed and surface goes back, leading to a decreased thickness.
