No tip vortices or wake vortices StarCCM+ Water simulation
Hello, I am studying a model of a propulsor with an underwater foil on StarCCM+. To prepare my full simulation with free surface and VoF, I ran a more simple one completely underwater, using Segregated Flow, RANS, K-w SST, All y+, Virtual disk, a well-refined mesh, implicit unsteady and vorticity-based AMR at 35 knots (18 m/s) which ran for 1.5 s (physical time). My residuals are all < 10^-3, the solution around the geometry looks reasonable but there are no tip-end vortices or vortices behind the Virtual disk. It looks like the vortices start and just die out suddenly. My wake is basically non-existent and I only see straight streamlines in the wake. Has anyone ever encountered such a problem, or has any idea as to how to solve it? I would greatly appreciate any help, Thank you! |

Do you really expect a tip vortex, when you replace the real geometry of the propeller with a "VirtualDisk"?
