Forced Transition (transition point imposition) in unstructured CFD solvers

Hello everyone,
I am facing the problem of addressing laminar to turbulent transition for compressible high-reynolds number flows. From my initial literature review, it seems that performance of Local correlation transition models (the easier option if 3D complex configurations are considered) quickly deteriorates as Reynolds number goes beyond 5-6 million, and eN based approaches become more reliable even if crucial limitations for this method still remain for complex 3D flows. I was testing the performance deterioration of the Bas-Cakmakcioglu model in SU2 as Re number goes beyond 5m. I was therefore thinking to address the problem of imposing transition a-priori through an intermittency factor, which is a given rather than calculated through local quantities as in the BC model. I was wondering if there are renference or anyone can give any help if this is possible at all and how it can be implemented in an unstructured solver like SU2. Of course, different ideas and/or references on how to define forced transition in an unstructured CFD solver are welcome. I am mainly looking at using SA model for turbulence, but also SST is available in SU2. Also please correct me if I am wrong about the current status of Local-Correlation Transition models for high reynolds numbers. Thanks a lot, Gaetano |
