Hi,

Anyone knows of a place that I can get a free VOF source code (2D will be fine, and any type of VOF will be OK too). Thanks!

(1). visit the website of flow sciences at http://www.flow3d.com/ (also a sponsor of this forum). (2). I think, you can find the inventor of the VOF method at the same location.

John's on track as usual.

Flow-3d is the commercial child of sola-vof, the original 2-d vof implementation.

If you're located in the US, you might be able to get source code from the Los Alamos National Lab (try http://gnarly.lanl.gov/Home.htm). If not, perhaps they can tell you where to ask.

You might try NASA for a copy of nasa.vof-2d or -3d, slightly enhanced versions of sola-vof.

Good luck.

Hi, Jim,

I tried Los Alamos's web side (that you posted). All their codes (such as RIPPLE, CFDLIB, ...etc) are not free.

I did tried flow3d's web site also, no luck!

How can I get nasa.vof-2d (3d)?

Thanks!

Maybe you should try to get the reports. The Fortran listings are printed in them. It's a lot of work (unless you get a good quality copy and can scan the code), but the price is right. Unless you need the extra stuff in the NASA version, the SOLA version is a lot shorter.

Nichols, B. D., C. W. Hirt, and R. S. Hotchkiss, "SOLA-VOF: A solution Algorithm for Transient Fluid Flow with Multiple Free Surfaces," Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory Report LA-8355, August, 1980.

Torrey, Martin D., Lawrence D. Cloutman, Raymond C. Mjolness, and C. W. Hirt, "NASA-VOF2D: A Computer Program for Incompressible Flows with Free Surfaces," Los Alamos National Laboratory Report, December, 1985.

Your institution's library should be able to find copies of these for you. They might try the Department of Energy (DOE) repository or NASA repositories.

Good luck!

Hi, Jim,

Thanks for the info. I found these reports (pdf format) from Los Alamos's on-line library.

Best,

Pei-Ying
