Why do the Karlovitz and Damköhler number share the same diagram

Hi folks,
i am doing combution DNS and would like to understand and measure the karlovitz numer (Ka) in the field. There is one issue about the definitions which confuse me. the definition of Ka is = (laminar flame front thickness*turbulent intensity of the kolmogorov eddies) / (laminar flame velocity*length of the kolmogorov eddies) The definition of the Damköhler number (Da) is (laminar flame velocity*length of the biggest eddies) / (laminar flame front thickness*turbulent intensity of the biggest eddies) the only differences are the the numbers are inverse an instead of refering to big eddies, Ka is referring to the kolmogorov eddies. That's fine BUT if you look on the dorghi diagramm you find both numbers indicated there while the axes are defined only according to the values used by the damköhler number. How is it possible that also Ka is there. As I see it, kolmogorov related values are decoupled from the ones of the big eddies by the viscosoty. So putting Ka and Da in the sam diagram without taking viscosities into account makes no sense to me. Just google "borghi diagram" each of the contains both numbers. Could you explain that that to me, please? Thanks |
