High Pressure Steam release to atmosphere

This might be a very trivial question.
I have been trying to figure out but did not succeed due to lack of my background. It will be very helpful, if someone can explain If high pressure steam (or air-steam mixure) is released to the open atmosphere, what happens? Will the steam condense? How it can effect the transport of particles, if it carrier some? Thank you
