These required specifications are going to be different for current versions of different commercial CFD codes--you should read the stated requirements for the CFD software you plan to use. I suspect that all of the codes (Open and Commercial) will run fine on any reasonably new PC. But, the limits you reach will depend on two factors...how many degrees of freedom (cell/node/basis function count, number of field variables) your problem requires and how long you are willing to wait for your answers. Larger problems require more RAM to fit the problem and you do not ever want to run a problem so large that it spills over into scratch space--it will be a factor of ten or more slower. And large problems naturally take longer to run...often times, super-linearly more time.

With regard specifically to video performance, the problem will likely be responsiveness when you are visualizing results. Again, all fairly recent GPUs will be able to run all of the visualization tools, but it might be a little sluggish to update.

So, I recommend that you run what you have, begin to understand the scale of the problems you wish to tackle, and then reassess your CPU, GPU, and memory requirements.
