I am having hard time developing correlation between CFD & Test results. CFD package is Flow EFD by Mentor graphics.
The product I am analyzing is an air cleaner for automotive applications. Flow rate varies from 0.7 m^3/min to 14 m^3/min. The aim is to obtain pressure drop across air filter and compare it with the test results. Until 8.67 m^3/min flow rate the error is within 3% however above 11.53 m^3/min flow rate the error increases to 10-15%. I do not understand why error grows with the flow. Probably I have to correct my turbulence model. Current turbulence model is turbulence intensity(2%) and length. At 14 m^3/min the velocity is 113 m/s (0.3 mach number). I also tried flow compressibility but the results is greatly inaccurate. Results are attached in pdf file. Any help on how to minimize the error with higher flow rate? |

How is the filter modeled? It sounds to me like you do not have the right properties defined. I am not familiar with your software, but I deal with filters in the context of larger systems daily. It looks to me like you need to verify your media properties before trying to analyze the system. Do you have experimental data (pressure drop vs face velocity) for the media?
