If it's the LANL report, it says nothing about copyright at all.

Comments in the code include:

c *** sola-vof volume of fluid method *** c c * * reference: b.d. nichols, c.w. hirt, and r.s. hotchkiss, c * * "sola-vof: a solution algorithm for transient fluid flow c * * with multiple free boundaries," los alamos scientific c * * laboratory report la-8355 (1980). c c * * copyright, 1980, the regents of the university of california.

c * * this software was produced under a u.s. government contract c * * (w-7405-eng-36) by the los alamos national laboratory, c * * which is operated by the university of california for the c * * u.s. department of energy. the u.s. government is licensed c * * to use, produce, and distribute this software. permission c * * is granted to the public to copy and use this software c * * without charge, provided that this notice and any statement c * * of authorship are reproduced on all copies. neither the c * * government nor the university makes any warranty, express or c * * implied, or assumes any liability or responsibility for the use of this software.

[Sorry for the difficult formatting].

You might check if there is an export restriction imposed since 9/11 (long after the publication date).

as i already said, my problem is just due to copywrite issue, in my report and code (of course very old), it is alerted to do not circulate!

otd: do you mean that its copywrite is now out of date? and it is legal to distribute it?

SOLA VOF report free circulate, and avaibale for dowload from official LANL site (http://lib-www.lanl.gov/cgi-bin/getfile?00313507.pdf). I think it mean that fortran code is avaible for free circulate too.

if it's, why you do not request from LANR (at least you can do a trial)?

Because, it's easier to ask colleague about it on special forum, than long suffer with LANL's technical support. I try to save time for fruitful work

I think US Copyrights are perpetual. To me, the words that I quoted say that the code can be distributed as long as credit is given for those who created it.

What I don't know is if there are export (outside the US) restrictions imposed by the Department of Energy after 9/11.

One of the links quoted above by someone is to the LANL document servers. Can the code and/or report be downloaded from there?

sorry

i can redistribute code

however, as an expert with more than 6 years experience in interfacial flow simulation, guide you to more advanced codes (note that sola-vof is quite out of date due to poor pressure solver and also first order VOF)

nast2d : very nice for begineer but with mac method to track free surface, i know also a version of nast2d by someone that use two varient of plic-vof (i can search for it if you need)

Gerris Flow Solver: very powerful free surface flow solver on quadtree/octree grids, PLIC VOF and fully 2nd order method,
