I found a coordinate file of an airfoil but I don't know which airfoil does it belong to. I tried looking at few airfoils at airfoildb but couldn't match any. Any ideas on how can I find its name? I know that is a NACA airfoil.

NACA aerofoils are coded with respect to their camber/ chord/ other dimensional parameters.. did you try looking at the nomenclature of NACA aerofoils..? Plot the aerofoil and compute the chord & camber (if any) and look for the closest one in library (XFoil etc.)

Thank you fresty for your reply. I went to airfoiltools.com and there I uploaded my coordinates file. It told me the camber and other details and I was able to find my airfoil.

If you have Matlab or a similar computing tool you can create a script to scan the whole UIUC airfoil database (you will have to download it first) and compare the coordinates of each file in the database.

I liked the idea. Programming has amazing potentials. Thanks for your response.
