How to make a "baffle" in ICEM-CFX

Hi, I've recently met a problem of using baffle in a 3D CFD model. I can draw a surface(2D plane)(which I want to use as a baffle) in the geometry model in ICEM-CFX and then producing the mesh, but the surface can not be recognized by CFX-pre.
Could someone give me any suggestions on this? Thanks in advance. Joe |

In ICEM you need to mark the surface as 'Internal Surface' for it to preserve the surface mesh. I think that's somewhere in the Surface Meshing Parameters or you can use the Mesh Parameters by Part and I think there's a check-box for Internal Surface.

Hi myron,
Your suggestion is very helpful and encouraging. But it still doesn't work.. Thanks. Joe |

Do you see the surface mesh on that surface while still in ICEM CFD? Are you building Hex mesh or Tet mesh?

Hi myron, I think you were right. I tried a tetra mesh today and it works all right.
Thank you very much! Joe |

Hi myron, Is it possible to use internal surfaces in hex mesh (blocking method)?
Thanks, Joe |

To do it in Hexa - you need to use the projection options to project those block 'faces' to a particular 'Part'. Otherwise those faces are simply treated as internal and not projected to anything. If the surfaces has non-straight edges, you'll also need to project the edges to the bounding curves.
