How does one obtain an entry level job in CFD when every position requires minimum 5+ years of experience? How did you get started?

What I would do is try to apply to job postings in companies that are not 100% dedicated to Fluids and heat transfer but instead their product involves different type of development work (that may includes some fluids and heat transfer). In my case I went to the Diesel engine business, the company that hired me had an opening in the Lube and Cooling team which takes care of the development of such systems within the engine. For this position I was not running CFD all day. I used my CFD skills during the early stages of a project but my fluids knowledge was used more in the everyday work (rig testing, water pump design, thermostat development, etc). In my opinion CFD expertise helps you but ultimately your problem solving skills will determine who you become long term. Do not get discourage for this 5 years experience deal...Go to career fairs, this is where the company I work for get most of their new hires, most of them entry level. Aim high! good luck Tim.
