Default codes for water hammer on pipe flow

hi all,

i am new to fortran. i need to write program for pipe flow with water hammer effect.

assume a model consists of reservior with one pump sucks the water from the reservior. a check valve is installed ahead of the pump. And the water is circulated, when the pump trips the pressure transients will occur. Can any one give the idea of how to strat write the codes( in fortran or matlab) by using finite differnce method.
