The British team goes only 8th after beating the Athens world record. The US team is 4s ahead. They commented: it is not because of the suit, Watch the race:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olym...ng/7553107.stm for the CFD article: http://www.ansys.com/magazine/issues.../01-sports.pdf It is true, in swimming 99% of the race is won because of the motion rithm and the coordination breathing, arm, hips, legs, feet. What do you think? |

There is a research on this topic being conducted at George Washington University in the research group of Rajat mittal using immersed boundary methods.

It's the swimmers and the suits. At this level the swimmers are all pretty close in terms of technique so having the suits can make a difference.
It's the same in any sport which uses some form of equipment (bikes, tennis, golf, etc...). If new equipment made no difference then the Tour de France would still be held on steel bikes with steel wheels, wooden tires, etc... Tiger Woods would use crappy $100 golf clubs (allthough he would still beat most of us with them). |
