hi, I am a beginner in CFD. I have written a program for lid driven cavity in staggered grid.. Can any one tell me how to calculate stream function and vorticity from velocity data in staggered points? Thank you

the definitio of the stream functinon and the voricity shoudl be known fisrt.

then you can use the finite difference method. the storage location for these two variable are not at the same location with the velocity and pressure.

hi,

it is very easy. As u are using staggered grid, so, velocity are at 3 different location. From the result file, you write another code, which will give the value at cell center. also the coordinate of cell center. then save this fule as, x,y,z,u,v,w-----and import it to Tecplot. Tecplot is a plotter. there you can specify vorticity equation ..and get directly the vorticity and streamline plots.

if you want more knowledge then mail me.

Dear Mr. Pankaj
My name is Hussam Ali Khalaf, postgraduate student in Iraq and Am currently working on “A Solution Algorithm for Transient Fluid Flow with Multiple Free Boundaries”
I have results for velocities values (u and v) in directions x and y for undular bore evolution (please, note the file attachment), rectangular uniform mesh (2Dimension, (i,j)=(22,10)) consists of 20 cells in the horizontal direction (length=12 , ∆x=0.6) and 8 cells in the vertical direction (height=1.6, ∆y=0.2).
Am supposed to draw velocity vector, streamline and stream function. I have a program TecPLOT, I have tried several times but I don’t fully understand how TecPLOT reads the results, would you please help me if you have any idea on how to go about it.
Thank in advance

Yours sincerely
Hussam Ali Khalaf
