I am new to CFD. I want to analyse a flow through a valve. The geometry of the valve is very complex. Hence I am starting to learn from simple geometries like, flow over a cylinder in 2D. I am able to create a unstructured mesh using the inbuilt command in fluent. But I need to create a structured mesh for simple geometries first and then apply that knowledge in mehsing my complex valve. Kindly pls guide me where to start learning structured meshing for 2D and 2D geometries. Pls refer a good guide or a tutorial video.

What meshing software do you have access to? Structured meshing tutorials will be software specific.

Fluent mesher does not support block structured meshing

Thank you so much for ur reply. I have access to Ansys Fluent and ICEM CFD...If required please suggest some useful meshing packages and tutorials also.

the blocking tutorials in ICEM will teach you how to create hexahedral meshes you can use in FLUENT. Fluent will only accept unstructured mesh so when you convert your premesh to mesh (tutorial will show you how) make sure to convert to unstructured.

ICEM is a good software to use for learning block structured meshing. It comes with some good tutorials to get you started. Just open ICEM, hover over help, and click tutorial manual

Yes ICEM CFD is a versatile software to generate unstructured and structured multi block grids ....it can handle quiet complex geometries.

Just follow the tutorial and you, ll learn it.....

Can you share your geometry ...I would like to generate structured grid on it.

Thanks!

Is this a standing offer? I have some geometries that need to be meshed
