Default Heat Transfer Coefficient CFD to FEA mapping

Can someone explain what is the fundamental principle in mapping the local heat transfer coefficient on walls from CFD mesh to FEA mesh.

How does it work ? Is it reliable?

Many commercial CFD codes have this option of mapping local HTC to an FEA mesh for thermal analysis.

I do not understand the principle behind it. Thank you.
