Dear all,

concerning turbomachinery applications, I would like to know from you if you ever heard about an unsteady PISO based solver used to solve a MRF case.
Since I was experiencing troubles with a steady SIMPLE MRF solver, I wrote my own transient-PISO-MRF solver and found it was a good solution (probably because of PISO solver instead of SIMPLE), both in terms of numerical convergence and, subsequently, of engineering results (torque, energy, flow field,..). I would like to understand if there is anything new in the proposed approach or if it's something already known.

Thanks a lot.

well , i guess once i read in FLUENT help that its not quite right to use MRF method for transient process, but Fluent has the same option too , but it recommends to use dynamic mesh approach for transient process

Dear Federico,
yes I heard of it here:
http://www.training.prace-ri.eu/uplo...ugal_pumps.pdf

I was also interesting in the topic and wanted to compile it, I was wondering if you could share the code for testing.
If you are interesting in another alternative I compiled an MRFpUCoupledSolver which has been already tested with promising results, and I could share it if you want

Let me know!

Dear nimasam,

of course a steady-state approach is not the right choice for a rigorous transient study. That was not my goal.

Dear crixman,

I don't know what you mean for pUCoupled. I mainly work on OF2.1.1 by OpenCFD, not the extended version. Can you please give me some more info? What's the purpose of that solver?
In my opinion it's very easy to compile that solver, just pick the lines you're interested (in this case, those where you recall the MRFZones and add the centrifugal and Corriolis sources) from MRF and paste into the pimpleFoam.
Anyway, if you want I can give you the source code.

Lamps!

Federico

Dear Federico,
pUCoupledFoam is available in foam-extend 3.1 - the goal is to have a strong p-U coupling in order to reduce the number of iterations required by the SIMPLE algorithm to reach convergence.
It seems to be a promising solver for steady-state simulations.
If you could share the code would be great, I would save some time - and I can share MRFpUCoupledFoam so you can have a look at the algorithm! If you want I can send you my email in private.
Let me know!
