Hi,

I most of the cfd numerics books (e.g. the book by Versteeg and W. Malalasekr) there are FVM examples for discretization of a diffusion equation applied on a quad mesh. Does anyone has an idea, where I can find some good explanations for tri and tetra meshes? Somehow, I have trouble to imagine the derivation of the discretization equation for unstructured meshes...

Regards! Fab

There is a book by Lohner Applied CFD Techniques: An Introduction Based on Finite Element Methods. It has detailed explanation of the whole process.

The book you are referring to is an introduction to the finite volume method, unfortuanetly it explains a special case of the FVM applied to structured cartesian grids(I have the first edition, and have no plans to look at their second edition), If you want to understand the FVM you have to look at the book by Blazek

Well the 2nd edition contains a chapter on unstructured grids with illustrative examples. It also explains how to use Rhie and Chow velocity interpolation for co-located velocity arrangement instead of a staggered grid arrangement. If you liked how they explained things and how they approached problems, then I would recommend the 2nd edition. If not, well then there are a lot of other books out there.
