I wonder, whether FVM can solve shock problem or not? I know that FDM can't solve it, but what is about FVM? Does FVM can solve it?

FVM and FDM can both solve the shock tube problem if the algorithms are formulated properly. You should examine some of the classic references.

Hi ag, thanks for response. I wonder, how fdm can solve? bcoz in fdm we are assuming that function is continuous, while shock itself is discontinuity. Pls let me know some of referances for fvm for shock problems. thanks.

I don't know any example of FVM, but I know the discontinuous Galerkin FEM can solve shock problems. I guess some special interpolation function must be chosen in order to capture the discontinuity.

Check out Chi-Wang Shu's work.

The books by Hirsch, or Anderson, Tannehill and Pletcher, are good starting points.
