Hi,

I am simulating the flow inside a pump sump using FLUENT. The pump discharge at outlets are specified and its critical for my simulation to maintain that.

I wanted to know if giving it a specified target mass flow rate would help? I have calculated the mass flow corresponding to the discharge.

Look forward to your thoughts.

Best,

Hi Peetak,

Using Target Mass Flow Rate at pressure outlet boundary should be OK. Make sure that the static pressure that you are specifying and static pressure required to achieve are not to far from each other. Else, you might get some convergence issue.

To do this, you can do the simulation without specifying the target mass flow rate value. See what is the mass flow rate you are getting. If its too far for target flow rate, change the pressure value. Go close to the required values and the activate target mass flow rate.

Could you please share a schematic diagram of problem you want to solve. I just want to understand what objective you want to achieve and what boundary conditions you are using ?

Thanks
Vijay
