It has occurred to me that a lot of people are asking really basic questions (what is CFD in this forum and what are residuals in the STAR-CD one) when answers to these questions could be found in a matter of seconds using google (or any other search engine). Efficient use of search engines is surely an essential skill these days and there seems to be quite a lot of people who can't, and don't seem to have the initiative to find the answer for themselves. This isn't a poke at anyone in particular just a curious observation, what does everyone think?

I feel that many do not like to read the documentation and instead get a quick fix for the particular problem in hand.

Where I work there are people with brains the size of a planet who find difficulty with tasks many of us would consider simple. It takes a mix.

No, I agree with Ben here. These forums are flooded with very basic questions. These can be found in either manuals, internet etc. The more interresting problems who really require a joint effort from multiple readers have a harder time getting noticed. People are getting lazy. (I sound like my father now).

My feeling is, nobody puts a gun to your head to answer. If the question is silly or trivial then just don't answer. If someone else wants to, fine and if not, maybe the person will get off their butt and do a little work.

very accurate saying. why dont you want to benefit all the coworkers from each other. it is very frequent that a question witch looks like very beginnery but the superrior talents detect it and find very elegant acquisitions.
