Default Scale similarity models in LES

Hi,

I'm interested in knowing a bit more about scale similarity models in LEs such as Bardina's model. I've read several papers on this topic but I haven't found yet a satisfactory explanation of why this model is assumed to work. I'm therefore looking for a clear presentation of this kind of models basic assumptions, their physical counterpart if any and a derivation of the subsequent equations.

Can anyone help me with a useful reference or with his own experience about it?

Thanks in advance, Gary
