You can find the expressions in computational fluid mechanics and heat transfer by anderson,tanehill,pletcher ( chapter 5).

what kind of (structured) grid generator: ellyptic, hyperbolic, algebraic (on what geom. and layout), but i recommend to read Thompson book about this (is freely online avalible from: http://www.hpc.msstate.edu/publications/gridbook/)
- It has some simple example FORTRAN code (appendix C) that guide to resolve your problem. |

Gridgen has used a variation of Vinokur's hyperbolic tangent function for distributing points on curves for about 20 years. Marcel Vinokur's original report is a NASA CR (I think).
