Try some basic analytic cases from your fluids books: 1) inviscid flow over a cylinder 2) flat plate boundary layer (Blasius solution) 3) 2D oblique shock past a wedge/cone of known angle 4) etc. etc.

Are you using a commercial code such as Fluent say, or are you writing your own code ?
I'd start with a 1D simulation through a convergent-divergent nozzle, this is very easily validated using isentropic flow and normal shock relations from theory. It is a useful and interesting study as it can be used to show how a change of boundary condition can result in drastically different flow behaviour even though the geometry remains unchanged - e.g. how a change of pressure ratio can result in subsonic flow throughout, a normal shock forming at the throat, or a normal shock forming in the divergent section downstream. I can't think of too many 2D cases where an analytical solution may exist apart from oblique shock formation over a wedge..again the shock characteristics ( strength, position etc ) can be calculated from theory giving some validation for you. A good start point would be the book by Anderson ( Computational Fluid Dynamics The Basics With Applications ) - you will find it in the books section on this site. Hope this helps, Simon. |
