Default Restarting KIVA with increased timestep

Kiva automatically cutts down dt when encounters convergence problems. After the critical period, I can restart the calculation, but the (small) dt is saved in otape8/itape7 file and the calculation proceeds using it. I tried to insert a new bigger dt in the code, but this causes incorect results. Is there a correct way to restart the calculation with an increased timestep?
