Default weighting function in adaptive grid

hi pals.. can anyone of u plz explain to me what is a weighting function in adaptive grid transformation..? also tell me how the weighting function is chosen.. also is the ideal weighting function, the truncation error in the flow? kindly clear my doubt .. thank u
