May I ask what kind of company has CFD as one of their core competences besides CFD consulting company?

Best regards and many thanks,

Are you asking about development of CFD (i.e. making CFD methods more accurate/faster) or use of CFD as a design tool (i.e. apply simulations to improve a design)?

ANSYS has a large amount of people working to develop CFD methods. Also any other company that sells software: (http://www.cfd-online.com/Wiki/Codes#Commercial_codes)

As for a design tool, companies who sell products that highly depend on flow / heat transfer will have teams of people who are experts in CFD analysis. A few examples would be aircraft, steam/gas turbine, and pipeline (flow assurance) companies.
