My name is Phil Mieszkowski and I am a research student at Stanford University. I am currently searching for cheap or free CFD software to model 'underfloor' HVAC systems in buildings. I plan to use this for teaching a class and for possible research projects. If anyone can suggest some programs that would be useful for this, or any other resources, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm not very familiar with CFD other than what I've picked up from searching the web.

Thank you, Phil Mieszkowski

Hi Phillip,

OpenFoam should be the first free option, but unfortunately the solver for buoyant flow in ventilated enclosures seems to be broken for 'heat flux' boundary conditions. You should try out the tutorial 'hotroom'.

Maybe that helps.

Greetings! Fabian
