Hi all!,
I´m working with ANSYS FLUENT with an i7 with Windows 7, but I have realised that FLUENT only use one core (13% of CPU). How could I make Fluent use all cores? Thanks |

i have to ask. have you set up the simulation to be solved in parallel?
look at the attached image |

Yes, I have done it, but when I select parallel (4 processes) fluent shows a warning message and i though parallel was only for more than one PC´s working in parallel.
In this case, why is the message warning? |

Do you know if you have the parallel licenses to access additional cores? You will need HPC licenses to do this.

It might be a licence issue, but try this, it worked for me on an i7/xeon 64-bit Win 7:
Open command prompt (cmd.exe) - Type CMD in start menu search bar. In Command Prompt, type: cd (fluent folder path) e.g.: cd C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v121\fluent\ntbin\win64 Press Enter It should now say: C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v121\fluent\ntbin\win64> Type: fluent (dimension)(double precision if wanted) (-t(number of parallel cores to be used)) e.g.: fluent 3ddp -t3 Press Enter This will make fluent run in 3d mode, with Double Precision, using 3 cores (advised on a 4-core machine so you can still use it for basic tasks during solve.) See if that works |

(Assuming you have the parallel licenses)
Did you install the HPMPI software? |

Hi all,
I have installed Fluent 12 on Windows 7 pro (64 bit). The machine has following specs: Intel® Core i7 950 Processor (3,06Ghz - 8 MB) 12 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (3 x 4 GB) I have tried to open a parallel version of fluent (local Machine). When I want to start fluent I got following error: ------------------------------------------------- Loading "\VMEERTENS-PC\C$\PROGRA~1\ANSYSI~1\v120\fluent\fluent12.0.16\ lib\fl114-64.dmp" Done Welcome to ANSYS FLUENT 12.0.16 Copyright 2009 ANSYS Inc. All Rights Reserved. Unauthorized use, distribution or duplication is prohibited. ANSYS and FLUENT are trademarks or registered trademarks of ANSYS, Inc. or its subsidiaries in the United States or other countries. Loading "\\VMEERTENS-PC\C$\PROGRA~1\ANSYSI~1\v120\fluent\fluent12.0.16\ lib\flprim1119-64.dmp" Done. CX_Client_Register (rpc connect): No such file or directory Error: There is no active application. Error Object: (grid-valid?) version> Interrupting... Done. Error: There is no active application. Error Object: (grid-valid?) ------------------------------------------------- I tried the other settings under “parallel settings” but I still got the same error message. I didn’t install any MPI software because I thought it is already integrated in W7. But after reading some threads I’m not so sure anymore… Maybe this has something to do with the Fluent prerequisites I installed the first time? If I remember it well, Fluent installed the C++ 2005 version and asked for a change in the control panel for a SP. If anyone has an idea for successful parallel settings, please let me know. This could also just be a licensing/MPI problem, but I’m new in it. Sincerely Vincent |

When start Fluent setup, there are menu to put in the number of cores which you would like to run, however if you setting 4 cores one of them will run about 13%. I think it might because this core is use as the server core to manage other cores.

Yes, I'm able to run academic license only 8 core on 16 cores machine. For additional cores, you have to pay for that.
