Hello Foamers
I'm currently running detailed CFD simulations on my system, which has an Intel i9-12900K with 4x 16GB DDR5 5200* (edit) MHz memory. I'm curious if this is a good combination for my needs, or if I am bottlenecking somewhere. Should I consider increasing the number of performance cores (currently at 8)? Perhaps a dual-processor motherboard with lower frequency but more cores would be a better choice? I've also been considering the i9-13900K, which has 8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores. Would this improve my CFD simulation performance? Or should I focus only on the performance cores when making a decision? Maybe go for i9-13900K and 64 Gb DDR5 6000MT/s? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Best regards, |

General recommendations for CFD hardware [WIP]

One thing is for certain though: upgrading to an I9-13900k from an I9-12900k won't change much. They have the same amount of P-cores with very similar performance. More E-cores don't help with CFD performance. |

But would changing the RAM memory speed make a difference? because the 12th generation cannot reach, for example, 7200 MT/s. |

Neither can 13th gen. Not with anything more than 2x16GB at least.
Of course, increasing memory transfer rate does help. But at best, it's a linear increase. Realistically, it will be less than that. Swapping a perfectly good CPU and buying different RAM has very limited potential. |

So, between a i9 14900 (with 8 Pcores and 16Ecores) and a Ryzen 9 7950x (with 16 Pcores), and let's suppose, the same amount and kind of memory (both the systems are 2-channel memory), would you suggest AMD? |
