Hello everybody.
I intend to make a cluster using raspberry pi 4 for SU2 and openfoam. I intend to use raspberry pi 4 (for those who dont know, it is a small single board computer with specs which are Broadcom BCM2711, ARM v8, Quad-core Cortex-A72 64bit SoC@ 1,5GHz, 4 gb ram and 32 gb memory). To make a cluster, i will be using an unmanaged switch with 32 ethernet ports and all the board will communicate vis ssh. So, i will be having 32 boards and they will use ubuntu as OS. I will be using openmpi for parallel computing. I wanted to ask if this configuration will work if i want to make large simulations with 4 or 5 millions of nodes ? Does having ram and memory separated in different boards the same as having a single pc with 128 cores, 128 gb of ram and 1 tb of memory? Thank you |

You are not the first to attempt a setup like this. Surf around a bit, and you will find write-ups from similar projects, and the problems they faced.
If you want to tinker with it for educational purposes, go for it. But start smaller than 32 nodes. If you want to use it to get stuff done, nope out of it as fast as you can. And get a normal workstation or small cluster. |
