Computer noise is a subjective matter to some extent. That machine may be "not very loud" compared to proper server gear. But you would need to be deaf in order to tolerate it under your desk.
Some time ago, someone purchased a machine in a very similar Supermicro chassis for the office I worked at. Some genius had marketed it as "ultra silent". The machine was quickly moved to a separate room, and could still be heard through the wall. |

Yeah, I am suspicious especially about the power supply. Server power supplies drive me crazy and cannot imagine how that would be in an open office environment.
I worked on a new quote with the supplier and how does this look now: quote It's a little more than $7k for the whole thing including assembly and 3 years of warranty. Honestly, if I would source the parts individually, I would end up more expensive - I am quite surprised about that. |
