Hi All
I am considering setting up a HPC cluster. Have previously used one in a university. I am considering buying all components and assembling for a custom application and also hoping that this will make the budget go further. I am targeting about 64 nodes of dual hex-core Xeon processors. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it possible to make savings in this way. Any suggestions for websites/companies that are good for bulk sales (with bulk discounts) of server motherboards and Xeon processors? (Surprisingly many of the better known sites have purchase limits and are not into giving volume discounts) Best Regards Hubert |

We assemble and sell all our own hardware. It is significantly cheaper alternative and over time you can remove all the bottle necks. You end up with a solution that is faster than cheaper than a generic HPC and much faster than any cloud solution we have trialled. Good luck.

I recall seeing a company PADT (Phoenix Analysis Design and Technology) that designed custom clusters. I have no experience with their clusters myself though.
