I wonder if I can ask for the communities advice? I have been asked to set up a suite of powerful workstations to tackle large CFD problems - typically of around 30 to 80 million cells (I am being advised), with a mixture of engineering applications from aerospace (super and subsonic) to automotive and civil engineering and particle motion modelling. I have a budget of about £60,000 for upto 6 workstations. I guess I could suggest one larger machine with 6 terminals as an alternative, but the initial proposal was 6 standalone machines. So my question is what should I be looking for? I understand that we need around 2gb of ram per million cell problem, but we also want to be able to run simulations as quick as possible so numbers of cores is critical too I presume. We will be using star-ccm+, open foam and ansys as software and can easily get different versions of these software for multi processor / cluster machines if necessary. Any advice on what I should be looking at would be welcome. Rod
